However, in the fourth quarter, four of the five starters for the Sun managed to score, while Collier contributed six of Minnesota’s final eight points.
To their credit, the Lynx continued to play strong defense until the end, limiting the Sun to only 16 points on 7-for-20 shooting in the fourth quarter. Smith stood out with eight rebounds, four assists, and five blocks, while three Lynx starters recorded multiple steals.
Unfortunately, the shots just weren’t falling for the Lynx.
Despite this, with 5:39 remaining, Collier made a clutch 15-footer to give the Lynx a one-point lead. However, Thomas found Carrington with a pass for a layup, Collier missed a shot on the other end, and Bonner scored in transition, putting the Sun back in the lead for good.
During the regular season, Connecticut had a 2-1 record against Minnesota, making them the only team the Lynx lost the season series to. Now, the Sun, who knocked out the Lynx in the playoffs last year, have won three out of four meetings.
“This was a hard-fought victory,” said Sun coach Stephanie White. “We knew it was going to be a tough battle, as it has been throughout the series. Both teams are known for their strong defensive play.”
