KETTERING, Ohio (WKEF) — Students had J.E. Prass Elementary in Kettering had the chance to meet Maddy Westbeld, a Kettering native who recently finished her rookie season for the Chicago Sky in the WNBA.
Westbeld spoke to the students about achieving dreams and being responsible, saying discipline helped her growing up. She shared her journey from playing at Fairmont – where she was named Ohio Ms. Basketball in 2020 – to a successful career at Notre Dame, and now to the WNBA. Westbeld was taken in the second round of the 2025 WNBA Draft, and appeared in 26 games this season for the Sky.
In previous years, Westbeld held camps in Kettering that combined basketball skill development with personal finance lessons. She says plans for future camps are currently on hold with the WNBA season structure, but she would like to resume them eventually.
