This release highlights my favorite event, the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon.
For almost a decade, I had the pleasure of visiting this wonderful German city and marathon, thanks to meet management.
I thoroughly enjoyed the race, as well as the expo which provided me with an annual update on the state of German road racing. The expo was very enjoyable.
The German road running scene reminded me of US road running in the 1970s, when runners were more hardcore and willing to race anywhere.
Germany and France have many trail races with challenging elevation changes. It was interesting to see some brands that are not as prominent in North America.
The press conference was always a highlight for me. It was exciting to interact with German athletes and interview Ethiopian and Kenyan athletes with the help of translators.
The race itself, through the historic streets of old Frankfurt, showcased the financial capital of Europe. Watching the event, covering it, and witnessing finishers outside the Movenpick Hotel were memorable experiences.
I will miss reconnecting with my old German friends and the dedicated race volunteers this year. If you’re considering running a marathon in Germany, I highly recommend the Frankfurt Marathon.
As the race rebounds from the pandemic, the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon is on track to host a fantastic event once again. RunBlogRun will provide coverage on Sunday, October 27, 2024.

Despite a few athletes withdrawing due to injury or visa issues, the competition remains strong with many elite runners aiming for impressive times.
While the male elite group aims for a sub 2:05 time, the female runners are expected to challenge the course record of 2:19:10 set by Valary Aiyabei.
Domestically, Tom Thurley and Laura Hottenrott will lead the German contingent at the marathon, showcasing their impressive personal bests.
