Manchester City’s Barclays Women’s Super League title push continued with a 2-0 victory over Everton at The Joie Stadium this afternoon.

Kerolin and Vivianne Miedema got the goals as The Cityzens started 2026 with another three points.

Manchester City started the game in search of goals and Miedema had a go at goal, but her effort was deflected by Ruby Mace.

Everton keeper Courtney Brosnan was then called into action and made a massive save. Khadija Shaw’s effort was heading towards the bottom corner, but Brosnan got down and made the stop, keeping The Toffees level.

Brosnan produced another save to deny Shaw soon after, punching the ball away, before Kerolin opened the scoring for Manchester City in the 26th minute. She managed to side-step past Maz Pacheco before striking the ball beyond Brosnan.

Martina Fernández got the ball into the back of the net for Everton, however, there was a foul on home keeper Ayaka Yamashita and the goal was disallowed.

Manchester City pushed to extend their advantage and Honoka Hayashi had to make a very important block to deny Shaw before the Jamaican international failed to capitalise from a Lauren Hemp cross.

Miedema eventually doubled the lead for the hosts in the 63rd minute. Shaw managed to float the ball over the defence and Miedema swept a shot home.

Shaw then couldn’t find a way past Brosnan herself as her strike was smashed right at the goalkeeper.

Just days after signing on loan from Manchester United, Hannah Blundell then had the opportunity to score against Manchester City, but her shot was sent directly into the arms of Yamashita.

Greenwood tried to make it three for Manchester City late on, but her effort was well-saved as Brosnan tipped the ball over the crossbar.

In the end, Manchester City claimed a 2-0 win which sees them march on at the top of the table.

Both sides are in Adobe Women’s FA Cup action next. Manchester City go to AFC Bournemouth while Everton are at West Bromwich Albion.
