Once free agency finally starts, it could lead to some league-altering moves. Every veteran except for Lexie Brown and Kalani Brown will be a free agent. That combined with an expansion draft for the Toronto Tempo and Portland Fire promises a lot of player movement.

Marina Mabrey is one of the players who could be on the move this offseason. She came to Connecticut to compete for a championship. The Sun’s window to do that closed abruptly. Mabrey said after the 2025 season that she would be back with the Sun this year, and she would be a great veteran presence for the young team. But if a contender offers her a big contract, she could still be on the move.

Mabrey’s performances in Unrivaled undoubtedly piqued the interest of several teams looking for additional firepower on the perimeter to elevate their offense to the next level. Mabrey’s talent as a scorer is no secret, but she is highlighting it this offseason. So, if any potential contender needs a scoring guard who can create her own shot and also make some plays for her teammates, they should look at Marina Mabrey—especially considering the other top guards who likely won’t be on the move.

Jackie Young, Kelsey Mitchell, Kahleah Copper, Arike Ogunbowale, Marina Mabrey, Chelsea Gray, Sabrina Ionescu, Brittany Sykes, and Kayla McBride are some of the top guards set to enter free agency. At this point, it’s difficult to imagine that Young, Gray, Mitchell, Copper, and Ionescu will do anything other than re-sign with their current teams. The Wings also seem to expect that Ogunbowale will be in Dallas this year. That leaves McBride, Sykes, and Mabrey, as well as Jewell Loyd, Ariel Atkins, and Courtney Williams as some of the best scoring guards potentially available in free agency.

Marina Mabrey is thriving in Unrivaled

After Mabrey missed most of her first Unrivaled season with an injury, she has taken the league by storm. The Lunar Owls got hit by injuries early on. They lost Napheesa Collier before the season even started, and Skylar Diggins missed the first three games. So, Mabrey had to act as the team’s main facilitator and perimeter scorer. She delivered.

Mabrey averaged 27.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 6.4 assists over her first five games. She already scored over 30 points twice. Moreover, Mabrey ranks second in the league in points per game, trailing only Chelsea Gray, is tied for the most minutes per game, and leads the league in field-goal attempts.

Mabrey’s ability to create offense and carry a big scoring load has been on full display.
