Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek, the son of former Los Angeles Dodger Mark Grudzielanek, has officially been drafted. Martin-Grudzielanek was the Toronto Blue Jays’ 20th-round pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.
The 6-foot-3 shortstop was drafted out of USC, where he spent his last two seasons of baseball after playing one year with UCLA. In his final season as a Trojan, Martin-Grudzielanek slashed .284/.369/.405 with 21 hits, 14 runs, one home run, and 13 RBIs in 20 games. Martin-Grudzielanek attended Torrey Pines High School in San Diego.
His father, Mark, played 15 seasons of professional baseball, debuting in 1995 with the Montreal Expos. A former 11th-round pick, Mark was traded to the Dodgers in July 1998. He played with the Dodgers through 2022, and even switched to second base after primarily playing shortstop prior. He had his best season as a Dodger in 1999, slashing .326/.376/.436 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs in 123 games.
Following his time with the Dodgers, the former All-Star played for the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals, and Cleveland. Over his career, he hit .280 with 2,040 hits, 90 home runs, and 640 RBIs.
Bryce now has the option to join the Blue Jays organization, but also has remaining college eligibility he could use to stay at USC.
