Sue Bird, a basketball legend from UConn and the WNBA, has been commemorated with her own Barbie doll.
According to Mattel’s announcement on Tuesday, the special edition doll was created in honor of Bird, who is known for her groundbreaking achievements and fearless advocacy for women in sports.
The Barbie doll is outfitted in a No. 10 jersey, representing Bird’s iconic number from her time at UConn and in the WNBA.
This doll is part of Mattel’s Role Model series, released in celebration of Barbie’s 65th anniversary and the company’s summer of sports campaign.
UConn, where Bird secured two national championships, shared a photo of her holding the Barbie doll with a smile.
After a remarkable 21-season career with the Seattle Storm, Bird retired in 2022. She played a pivotal role in the Storm’s four championship victories and represented Team USA in five gold medal-winning national teams, including the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Today, Bird is a proud part-owner of the Storm, continuing to make an impact in the basketball world.
