Leah Furlong
What do you love about coaching netball?
I find joy in coaching netball as I have the opportunity to inspire athletes to engage in a sport that I am passionate about. Making a positive impact on someone’s journey is truly rewarding. Coaching at Elite has provided me with incredible experiences, including coaching in Paris.
Tell us about your netball playing & coaching experiences
I started playing netball in primary school and later joined my local club. I progressed to play for my county pathway and currently represent my university in their BUCs team every Wednesday. My coaching journey has allowed me to coach at various levels, from club and county to Manchester Thunder pathway and now Elite. I feel privileged and grateful for the opportunity to work full-time in a sport I love.
How’s your experience at the Merseyside Academy as head coach?
The Merseyside Academy has a strong team of girls who consistently show up and put in the work every week. The potential is immense, and I am eager to see where these players will go in the future.
Outside of coaching, what do you enjoy?
I am currently pursuing a degree in Sport and Exercise Science, aiming to enhance my knowledge in conjunction with coaching.

What do you love about coaching netball?
Seeing the impact netball can have on players is incredibly rewarding for me. Creating an environment where girls and women can excel and enjoy the sport is highly satisfying.
I aim to instill a long-term passion for the sport in each session, while also providing a space for players to develop their skills and push themselves to succeed. During coaching, I like to introduce fun warm-up games like Croc Hockey to get players in the right mindset for the session.
Tell us about your netball playing & coaching experiences
I have been playing netball since primary school and have continued throughout my education. I currently play in the prem division of the local Gloucestershire league. While I enjoy playing competitively, my focus has always been on coaching. I have coached athletes of various ages and levels, including regional U16 teams.
How’s your experience at the Gloucester Academy as head coach?
The Gloucester Academy has been fantastic! Players from different clubs and schools in the area show dedication and a positive attitude towards improvement. We have been focusing on fundamental skills and enhancing fitness levels to give players a competitive edge. I look forward to witnessing the girls’ development and increased confidence in their netball skills at Elite.
Outside of netball, what do you enjoy?
When I’m not coaching or playing, I enjoy going to the gym and lifting weights to improve strength. During quieter weekends in the summer, I love horse riding, a passion of mine since childhood.
