Coach, organize, and administer the varsity tennis program. Direct all aspects of team management including staff responsibilities, practice sessions, scheduling, travel, player academic progress, budget control, equipment, and public relations. Be knowledgeable about and adhere to NCAA Division III and USA South Athletic Conference policies and procedures regarding intercollegiate athletics. Demonstrate a commitment to the athletics department mission. The head coach reports to the Athletics Director. This position is part-time for 10 months.
Duties:
Schedule practices and contests.
Organize and manage practices and contests.
Manage travel arrangements.
Develop a recruiting program that attracts quality student-athletes who will contribute to a competitive Division III program.
Counsel student-athletes on issues related to the college experience in addition to their intercollegiate athletic responsibilities.
Order and maintain all equipment.
Oversee the program’s practice and competition facilities.
Organize pre-season and college break facilities and meals for student-athletes.
Supervise an annual budget that complies with the given parameters.
Participate in professional development activities and other required college functions.
Participate in staff meetings.
Promote the program in the community and with alumnae.
Collaborate with the Sports Information Director in reporting all relevant team information promptly. – Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of two years of experience coaching tennis is required.
Head coaching experience at the club, high school, or college level preferred.
College recruiting experience preferred; ability to assess talent and recruit.
Ability to relate well to the college community, including students, faculty, and alumnae, as well as the general public and media; dedication to the full educational development of the student-athletes in the program is expected.
Candidate must possess a thorough understanding and working knowledge of NCAA Division III regulations.
All candidates must have a commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy and its rules and regulations.
Valid NC Driver’s License and a clean driving history are required.
