HOPEWELL, N.J. – South Dakota State senior Brooklyn Meyer was named a finalist for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Wednesday by Her Hoop Stats.

Meyer averages 22.4 points per game (10th in the NCAA) and has a .646 field goal percentage on the year (fifth in the NCAA). She also leads the Jackrabbits with 8.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.9 blocks per game in her senior campaign. The first-team all-Summit and all-defensive team pick led the Jackrabbits to a fourth consecutive Summit League Tournament title last week and was named Tournament MVP.

Meyer is one of two players in the country averaging more than 20 points per game while shooting better than .600 from the floor this year, joining Iowa State’s Audi Crooks to achieve that feat. Since 2009-10, only three other players had shot at least 65% from 2-point range on at least 13 attempts per game before this season (min. 20 games played): Mackenzie Holmes (2022-23), Monika Czinano (2021-22), and Megan Gustafson (2018-19 and 2017-18).

Meyer surpassed 2,000 career points during the opening round of the Summit League Tournament, becoming the third Jackrabbit in program history to reach that milestone. She ranks first in program history for career field goal percentage (.609), third for career blocks (173) and fifth for career rebounds (843).

Meyer is one of five finalists this season and is the second player in program history to be named a finalist for the award since it was created in 2020, joining Myah Selland (2021 and 2023). South Dakota State joins Drake as the only school to have three finalist selections in history.

Award Eligibility & ScheduleTo be eligible for this award, players must compete in one of the 26 conferences deemed to be “mid-major.” The following conferences are considered high-major for the purposes of this award and thus ineligible: ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, and SEC. Additionally, players from Oregon State and Washington State remain ineligible this year.

The 25-player preseason watch list was announced in October, and 10 semifinalists were announced in February. The winner will be announced on April 1. The list is fluid, and players may play their way on or off it over the course of the season.

About Becky HammonHammon was a three-time All-American at Colorado State and led the Rams to the Sweet 16 in 1999, the program’s only appearance to date. She was signed by the New York Liberty in 1999 and traded to the San Antonio Stars in 2007, where she played the rest of her career. Hammon retired in 2014 as a six-time All-Star and a two-time All-WNBA First Team honoree. In 2016, she was named one of the top 20 players in WNBA history and was named to the W25 in 2021.Hammon became the second female coach in NBA history when she began coaching for the San Antonio Spurs in 2014. Additionally, Hammon is the only woman to be a head coach in the NBA Summer League and the only woman to be a member of an NBA All-Star coaching staff. Currently, Hammon is the head coach of the Las Vegas Aces and has won the 2022, 2023 and 2025 WNBA Championships.
