Miami Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips revealed on Wednesday that he will be out for the remainder of the 2024 NFL season due to a partial ACL tear he sustained during Monday’s game against the Tennessee Titans. This injury comes after Phillips suffered an Achilles tear last November against the New York Jets, which ended his 2023 season.
“I firmly believe that our response to challenges defines our lives,” Phillips stated on Instagram. “During times of uncertainty, defeat, and sadness, it’s normal to question your purpose and wonder about the meaning behind the pain.”
After working hard to recover from his Achilles injury during the offseason, Phillips was all set for the 2024 season. The first-round pick of 2021 had recorded six tackles and a sack in the first four games before the knee injury on Monday.
“I understand that my purpose is to inspire others to never give up, regardless of how many times you fall,” Phillips expressed. “I am a living example of resilience and faith, and I draw strength from the belief that my God is bigger than any obstacle. I will endure through him. There’s nothing in life that can’t be overcome as long as you keep pushing forward.”
At 25 years old, Phillips has accumulated 152 total tackles and 23 sacks in his 46-game career. Miami exercised the fifth-year option on his rookie contract in April. With Phillips out, the Dolphins will now lean more on Emmanuel Ogbah, Quinton Bell, and rookies Chop Robinson and Mohamed Kamara, who will step up in Phillips’ absence.
Miami’s defense might receive a boost in the future when Bradley Chubb returns, as the edge rusher is currently on the physically unable to perform list after tearing his ACL towards the end of last season against Baltimore.
