For only the second time in 2025, the Miami Dolphins found themselves on the positive side of the scoreboard on Sunday — defeating the Atlanta Falcons in convincing fashion by a score of 34-10.
Tua Tagovailoa and the offense had an efficient day, with the quarterback throwing for four touchdowns and zero interceptions while completing 20 of 26 passes. Miami’s ground attack led the way — with head coach Mike McDaniel calling 37 running plays as opposed to just 26 throws.
It was a good day from the offense, but we’ve seen that this season. What we haven’t seen is a dominating performance by the defense, and that’s just what we got against Atlanta on Sunday as Miami only allowed 213 yards after averaging a poor 363.1 yards allowed per game heading into their showdown with the Falcons.
One defender led the way, spearheading Miami’s defensive rebound.
Miami Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks had himself a day against Atlanta — totaling 10 tackles, including two tackles for loss and a sack of Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins. All day long, Brooks was shedding blocks and attacking ball carriers — a major reason why all-star running back Bijan Robinson finished Sunday’s contest with just 25 yards rushing on 9 carries. For a player who was averaging just over 5.0 yards per carry on the season, Brooks and company gave up just 2.8 yards per carry to Atlanta’s monster back.
Week eight marks the first time a defensive player has won the Most Valuable ‘Phin award from yours truly in 2025, but here’s hoping Anthony Weaver’s bunch can continue to turn in productive performances while Miami continues to put more notches in the win column.
Don’t forget, the Dolphins were 2-6 after eight games last season, yet narrowly missed the playoffs after stringing together a bunch of wins during the back half of the 2024 season. Can they repeat history, but this time win an extra game or two in order to get themselves into the postseason? That may end up being too much to ask considering Miami’s remaining schedule, but after a victory like the team had on Sunday, one can dream, right?
