Mid-season County League round-up (2/3)

Our second mid-season County League round-up runs from East Riding to Essex, Gloucester, Hampshire, Hereford, Isle of Man, Jersey, Lancashire, Leicester, Lincolnshire, Liverpool, London and Manchester.

East Riding

Chanterlands go into the new year as league leaders but unbeaten pair AFC Preston and North Ferriby have games in hand with which to overtake them. Kingswood United lead Division 2 but can be caught by the trio of Cherry Burton, Cottingham Rangers and AFC Tickton.

Essex

Colchester United occupy pole position in the Premier and have played a couple of fixtures less than second-placed Brentwood Town, although Hashtag United Reserves will go above them in they win their game in hand. Leigh Ramblers have won eight of eight games to date in Division 1 and Leigh United look to be their only title rivals. Hutton Development are dominant in Division 2 with 10 straight wins, with Emerson & Upminster trying to keep up the pace. Braintree Athletic are unbeaten in 11 and Division 4 leaders from Island Ladies, Pitsea Town are top of the Fifth from South Woodham Ferrers United and Earls Hall United.

Gloucestershire

Bristol Brunel lead Division 1 by two points from Whitchurch, Mangotsfield United and Bishops Cleeve playing catch up. Gloucester City Reserves are going great guns with 10 Division 2 wins in a row, holding a nine-point advantage over nearest rivals Forest Green Rovers Development. Kingswood top Division 3 but are under pressure from several sides, particularly Bishops Cleeve Development, Ellwood and Cinderford Town. Leading Division 4 are Andoversford by a single point from Cheltenham Spa, who have one match to make up.

Greater London

Hammersmith hold the Premier top spot by four points from three sides including Tooting Bec, with two games in hand for both South London and Camden Town. AFC Leyton’s Division 1 North lead is just two points and they have played one match more than London Academicals in second, AFC Croydon Athletic are at the Division 1 South summit and with fewer fixtures played than pursuers Sporting Duet and South London Reserves. Clapton CFC Reserves and Alexandra Park are on course for the top two slots in Division 2 North, with one defeat each from 11 and 10 games respectively. Division 2 Central & South is lead by Civil Service ahead of Grenfell Athletic.

Greater Manchester

Hyde United’s winning run in the Premier is currently on nine games, Rochdale have a couple in hand but a dozen points to make up. Division 1 leaders Reddish North End Pinks are chased primarily by Bury Reserves, who are five points behind from two games fewer. Manchester Laces Teal Squad lead Division 2 by four points from Cherrybrook, Wilmslow Albion being the other unbeaten side in third. Division 3 top team Ashton on Mersey are up to nine wins in a row, AFC Urmston Meadowside Athena sit second but Glossop North End in third have games in hand.

Hampshire

Shanklin have dropped only two points to date in leading Division 1 but Farnborough in second boast a 100% record. AFC Portchester Reserves are one point ahead of Mudeford Phoenix in Division 2 from one game more. Nine wins on the trot and a 12-point lead, AFC Stubbington could be considered Division 3 champions elect, Gosport Borough Reserves and Andover Town remain without defeat in the Division 4 title battle. Springbourne’s Division 5 leadership is pressured by Petersfield Town’s 100% form, likewise AFC Stubbington by AFC Portchester Development in Division 6.

Herefordshire 

League leaders Westfields can be caught by both Ross and Penybont United with their games in hand, while fourth-placed Wellington could also have an impact.

Canada Life Isle of Man

Corinthians have won all their games in the first half of the league season, Malew lead the Floodlit Cup table with a similar record.

Jersey Combination

It is actually neighbouring island Guernsey whose team sit top without a point dropped in the five-team competition, with Rozel Rovers positioned second.

Guernsey FC Women will have their first game on home soil in February 2025 against Sutton United Women in the third round of the Combined Counties Women’s Cup.

Lancashire

Premier leaders are Accrington Stanley Reserves but by a single point from Bolton Wanderers Reserves, who have won all 11 games so far. Wigan Athletic FC have gone one better so far in the Championship, with Blackburn CSC Reserves dropping three points at this stage. Workington Town Reserves lead Abbeytown in Division 1 North by one point with as many games in hand, Sir Tom Finney Blue are first in Division 1 North/West but AFC Bolton are the side yet to drop a point. Rosegrove’s lead in Division 1 South/East is 12 points over Radcliffe Reserves, whom along with Mill Hill (Blackburn) have played three games fewer. Bond Street have yet to slip up in the Recreational section, in which St. Annes Eagles and SRDC have also made winning starts.

Leicestershire

Coalville Town Ravens’ eight straight victories see them lead Division 1 from Allexton & New Parks – who have played a game more – on goal-difference. Hinckley lead Division 2 by one point from the unbeaten Loughborough Foxes Sapphires, while Saffron Dynamo are also in quite a strong position.

Quickline Lincolnshire

There is four points between the top four in the North Division, with Bottesford Town leading from Cleethorpes Town, then Brigg Town and Grimsby Borough. South Division leaders are Lincoln United Development, chased mainly by Boston Town and Ruston Sports.

Liverpool

Eight wins on the trot for Ashton Town see them top of the Premier by three points from Pilkington, who have played a game more. there appears to be no stopping Tranmere Rovers Development in Division 1, with 13 wins on the spin and a massive 18-point lead over Marine, who have four games to catch up, likewise Litherland REMYCA Development in third.
