McKenna Johnson is the newest member of the Butler women’s basketball team. The 5-9 guard came in at No. 60 in the 2024 Top 100 Recruit Rankings (ESPN) before deciding on Minnesota. She attended Wilmot Union High School out of Wilmot, Wisconsin.
Â
“McKenna can flat out score the basketball,” Head Coach Austin Parkinson stated. “She is a three-level scorer who shoots the ball with a lot of confidence. I also like her toughness and willingness to take charges on defense.”
Â
Johnson entered the transfer portal after just one season at Minnesota. She saw action in 24 games a year ago and scored a career-high 15 points against Rutgers. She had 13 fourth quarter points against UMass Lowell and filled up the box score vs. Jackson State with seven points, six rebounds, three assists and a block.
Â
Johnson enrolled at Minnesota early for the 2023-24 campaign but did not see any action, giving her three years of eligibility at Butler.
Â
Before joining the Golden Gophers, Johnson averaged 26.1 points, 10 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 2.0 assists per contest at Wilmot Union High School. She was a three-time All-Conference performer and was named to the All-State team after her junior season.
Â
Johnson also played for Wisconsin Flight Elite, helping lead that program to the EYBL Final Four in 2023.
