Mizuno’s new Limited-Edition Iceberg irons are anything but your typical execution of a mid-cycle (or, in this case, early-cycle) color refresh.

For many brands, Mizuno included, a new finish option is a lever that’s frequently pulled to generate excitement and renewed interest in a product as it gets deeper into its lifecycle.

That said, we’re not even a full year deep into the anticipated three-year lifecycle for either model featured in the Iceberg offering and given that nothing in Mizuno’s Signature Series comes with the expectation of huge market share, this isn’t so much about recapturing your attention as it is showcasing the craftsmanship and artistry that are intertwined in Mizuno’s DNA.

About Mizuno Iceberg Irons

The first thing to know about Mizuno’s limited-edition Iceberg is that it’s a prepackaged combo set featuring cavityback S-3 irons in the 3-6 and muscleback S-1 irons in the 6-PW.

While that makes Mizuno’s Iceberg  a bit different than most limited edition plays, the more intriguing piece of the story—and what makes this particularly offering so cool—is that Mizuno isn’t relying on an industry-standard color play. There’s no black here. No copper either. And while Mizuno is again leaning into blue, you’ve likely never seen it done like this. With the Iceberg irons, Mizuno has created an iron offering with what I suppose can be described as a gradiated approach to the finish that serves as the hook offering.

The three iron has a satin chrome finish, but as you move through the set from 4 to 5, 5 to 6, and so on, each successive model takes on a progressively deeper shade of blue. No two irons in the set feature exactly the same finish.

Further accenting the design are custom ferrules unique to each iron. The three iron features a series of mostly dark gray rings. As you progress, the grays become lighter before shifting towards a series of dark blues in the short irons.

For the sake of nitpicking, I’ll point out that Mizuno skipped the same level of detail with the grips. Instead of varying colors, each iron in the set features the same white Golf Pride Tour Velvet Cord with a blue cap.

I guess we can’t have everything. The Dynamic Gold S400 shafts that complete the Mizuno Iceberg offering are also just single tone steel.

Oh, the humanity!
