Mookie Betts has had an impressive career, being a seven-time All-Star, three-time All-MLB first team, former American League MVP and batting champion, and a two-time World Series champion.
He recently reached a career WAR of 70.1, moving closer to a spot in the Hall of Fame. WAR measures a player’s value compared to a replacement-level player at the same position.
According to Baseball Reference, Betts is the 71st player in their database to surpass 70.0 career WAR, a significant milestone that puts him in the Hall of Fame conversation. Most players with similar career WAR numbers are already in the Hall of Fame (
Now considered a Hall of Famer, the question remains if Betts will be a first-ballot inductee. He currently ranks No. 69 in career WAR, tied with Carlos Beltran and Scott Rolen.
Rolen was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2023 after a successful career across multiple teams. Beltran, on the other hand, received a strong vote percentage in his second year on the ballot, signaling a likely future induction.
In the Modern Era, nearly all position players with a 70 career WAR are in the Hall of Fame, further solidifying Betts’ potential induction. With impressive career statistics and milestones ahead, Betts has a strong case for enshrinement.
