Earlier this week, I asked the question-
Which player(s) have been outright disappointing up to this point of the season? Additionally, which player(s) have thus far been a pleasant surprise through the first five games of the season?
Below are some of your thoughts and answers to the question of the day-
Dolphster is happy with what longtime vetran and former Cane Campbell has brought to the team.
Calais Campbell has been a pleasant surprise that he is still at a high level leaving it all on the field at his age. Also, I like to watch how guys behave on the sideline. Calais has been one of the Dolphins who is showing a lot of fire and emotion on the sidelines. You can tell he is invested in this team and isn’t just there for the paycheck.
finfanfromsiam is also happy with Calais but not so much with Ramsey, who should be playing better after again being made the highest-paid CB in the game.
Most surprising for me is Campbell with a shout out to Og. Didn’t know how much Calais had left. Most disappointing to me is Ramsey. For the one of the top paid CB’s he has been burnt toast too many times so far this season IMHO. Dishonorable mention to McGlasses for having his head up his wassu with shit playcallling to date.
Alley Gator is happy with Jonnu’s contributions but is disappointed in how Jones has played thus far.
Pleasent Surprise: Jonnu Smith. I thought MM was bringing the SF offense that Kittle does so well in, but after a couple of seasons of Smythe I doubted the Smith signing would have any impact in this version of the Shanahan offense. Finally some glimmer of hope after the NE game. Hope it keeps up.
Disappointment: Robert Jones. I was hoping I was wrong and Grier/MM saw something that I didn’t.
Oh, and add seeing Connor Williams is the starting C for Seattle, on a cheap contract. Originally the thought was he would be seeking $10K, but the injury dropped him to like $2K. Why didn’t we outbid that? Then we’d have Brewer playing LG instead of Jones.
MIAMI235 is happy with Ogbah and gives a shout out to a couple of other guys that we need to step up already.
Ogbah…keep fighting for us …surprised, but knew he could. Cam Smith and Ez where are you …guys
Miami7 gave us a comprehensive list.
Disappointment:
Tyreek Hill
Tagovailoa
Julian Hill
Eichenberg
Poyer
Holland
Chop
Kamara
McDaniel’s coaching
Fuller (a little bit – pre injury)
Phillips (injury)
OBJ (injury? Whatever the heck he has goin’ on – he ISN’T helping)
DANNY CROSSMAN
Surprise/approval:
Calais Campbell
Ogbah
Seiler
Wright
Bailey
heatforlife is disappointed in a couple of the assumed stars of the team.
most disappointing achane waddle; most surprising brooks ogbah; calais has been good his whole career
Spok507 is not pleased with the offense’s stars but, like most, is happy with Ogbah’s play.
Biggest disappointment for me is most of the players on offense. Hill, Waddle, Tua etc., all got their money and so far have not impressed or earned it. But I think the biggest disappointment is TE Julian Hill. Why he’s even on the field is a mystery — unless they’re looking for someone to get penalties. Use Smith, Conner, Smythe, but let’s just leave Hill on the bench and watch the holding and illegal motion penalties go down.
My biggest surprise isn’t really a surprise to me — Emmanuel Ogbah. I understand why they had to release him for salary cap reasons, but I was disappointed because I think he’s one of the players that comes through when needed. So I was very happy when they re-signed him and I’m glad to see him making plays and making a statement. I don’t think Fangio knew how Ogbah should be used (like a number of our defensive players) and Ogbah is obviously making every effort to prove that.
SlayerNation1 wants to see the guys who received new contracts live up to their giant contracts. That seems like a very fair expectation!
Most disappointing could be any player/HC* who enjoyed a new contract. However, Tua stands above all as disappointing. I support Him all offseason thinking He has continued to grow and this will be the year He slays the dragon and is competitive vs. better teams.
Four days into the season and all of His betes noires are on display for the world to see:
– psyched out by primetime
– psyched out by BUF
-weak arm on primetime display
-serious injury proneness
-playing with extreme temerity carried over from late 2023
No lectures on how some of the interceptions are not Tua’s fault. I believe INTs are a QB stat as they all even out over time when you factor should have been INTs a QB gets away with because they are dropped. Tua has had those already also.
Pleasant surprise nicely sums up the season: Jake Bailey. If your Punter is the pleasant surprise, you got some Issues.
*McDisappointing has been just that on the coaching side. Unprepared, undisciplined, aloof on the sidelines and at the podium.
tpl wants to see something from Odell…
I’d have to say OBJ. He showed nothing against the Pats. Julian Hill is a close second. Why the coaches play him at all is beyond me when you have connor and Hayden Rucci.
Alpha6 is happily surprised by Bowser.
Disappointment: Odell Beckham Jr – Receiver – activated to sideline spectator.
Surprise: Tyus Bowser -LB – immediate impact. Expecting more from him thru the season.
heatforlife is another who is unhappy with what Hill adds to the offense.
julian hill most disappointing player period
Louie the lobster knew that the OL was going to be piss-poor.
Ogbah and Campbell – Pleasant suprises
Poyer and Walker – disappointments
I already had really low expectations of the OL so they’re right where I expected.
daytonadolfan is in step with the rest of us.
Campbell and Ogbah, and an honorable mention for Seiler ! Ramsey while good at the rush is disappointing at Corner . i really expected some interceptions from him.
There is a lot of consensus for a change. Thank you to each of you who took the time to read and respond to the question of the day. Join us tomorrow and Monday night for our game live threads, and we will return mid-next week with our questions for the lead-up to the Dolphins’ next game.
