Napheesa Collier’s husband, Alex Bazzell, offered his congratulations to Dan Rolfes, the coach of Missouri’s Incarnate Word Academy girls’ basketball team, as the Red Knights tied a record with 138 consecutive wins.
Rolfes shared MaxPreps’ tweet referencing the Red Knights tying the record previously held by the Central Plains Oilers from 2015 to 2020.
“Super proud coach!!!!” Rolfes wrote in his post.
Bazzell responded with a simple “Congrats!” to the achievement.
The Red Knights have maintained a perfect record over the last four seasons, going 29-0 in 2020-21 and 2021-22, then improving to 32-0 before settling at 31-0 in the past two years. This season, they are currently 7-0.
Meanwhile, Bazzell will be focusing on Unrivaled, a league co-founded by Collier and Breanna Stewart. Bazzell serves as the league’s president with the upcoming start on Jan. 17, where both Collier and Stewart will also participate.
Napheesa Collier’s husband Alex Bazzell compares her game to Steph Curry
Earning a comparison to NBA star Steph Curry is the ultimate respect for any basketball player, and Napheesa Collier has earned that recognition. As the reigning WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, she had an exceptional season excelling both defensively and offensively.
In an interview with “The Minnesota Star Tribune,” Collier’s husband and personal coach, Alex Bazzell, complimented her by comparing her off-the-ball instincts to Steph Curry.
“I would compare it to Steph [Curry] in the NBA,” Bazzell stated. “It’s what makes him great and her great. They’re not just running around, they’re cutting with a purpose. Always at the right moment. That’s impossible to game-plan for. You can look at tendencies all you want. But there’s not a lot of tendencies in feel.”
Bazzell also praised Collier’s shooting ability, likening it to 10-time NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony, one of the greatest scorers in NBA history.
Last season, Collier averaged 20.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game. She shot 49.2% from the field and 31.0% from the 3-point line.
