NBA Summer League: Second Week Standouts

LAS VEGAS — The second week of NBA Summer League has been breezing by, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t gotten plenty of performances to write home about. From a blue-blood center’s scoring dominance to a 40-point game from a player nobody would have expected it from, it’s been a week to remember at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion on the campus of UNLV.

Monday, July 14

Kyle Filipowski, Utah Jazz

Filipowski would be on a crash course toward the NBA Summer League MVP if the Jazz were able to win some games, but his performance over the last eight days has, at the very least, solidified him as a must-watch name moving forward. After a 32-point performance landed him on Friday’s standout list, Filipowski poured in 35 points on 11-of-15 shooting and grabbed 15 rebounds in Utah’s 93-91 overtime loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Monday. Filipowski leads the entire Summer League with 29.3 points per game in three appearances, although the Jazz sit at just 1-3.

Matas Buzelis, Chicago Bulls

There are plenty of prospective sophomores around the league who could have used a second Summer League stint more than Chicago’s Matas Buzelis, but it’s become clear that Buzelis is a man amongst boys in Las Vegas. His statline on Monday proved as much. The 20-year-old Lithuanian-American scored 28 points on 8-of-14 shooting in a 114-105 win over the Indiana Pacers, displaying strong off-ball movement and proficiency scoring at all three levels. His teammate, fan-favorite guard Yuki Kawamura, also impressed with a 15-point, 10-assist double-double.

Tuesday, July 15

Ajay Mitchell & Branden Carlson, Oklahoma City Thunder

It’s probably not a great sign for the other 29 organizations that the most promising roster in the entire Summer League field belongs to the reigning NBA Champions, but Ajay Mitchell, Branden Carlson and the Oklahoma City Thunder have been a force to be reckoned with. Mitchell (27 points) and Carlson (23 points) had matching 9-of-13 shooting clips in OKC’s 92-75 win over Orlando on Tuesday and they each grabbed seven rebounds, to boot. Mitchell’s +19 +/- line is also good for fourth among all players at Summer League.

JaKobe Walter, Toronto Raptors

Toronto’s JaKobe Walter was a menace on both ends of the floor Tuesday, tallying 26 points and seven steals in the Raptors’ 101-97 win over the Denver Nuggets. Walter made 8 of 16 attempts from the field overall, finishing 4-of-4 from inside-the-arc and 4-of-11 from outside of it. Walter is averaging 18 points per game in three appearances at the NBA 2K26 Summer League and his 3.3 steals per game ranks sixth among all players.

Wednesday, July 16

Jahmir Young, Chicago Bulls

Chicago Bulls guard Jahmir Young set the new scoring mark for this year’s Summer League meet in Las Vegas, torching the Milwaukee Bucks for 40 points on 13-of-18 shooting in the Bulls’ 102-96 win on Wednesday. Young buried a remarkable seven of his eight attempts from 3-point range and shot 7 of 9 from the free throw line while accumulating a team-high +/- of +21 in the six-point win. Young’s explosion on Wednesday was 30 points more than his previous high of 10 in the Bulls’ second Summer League game against the Sacramento Kings. And that was his only other time even reaching double-figures, meaning he won’t be challenging Filipowski for the scoring title.

Tyrese Proctor, Cleveland Cavaliers

Tyrese Proctor’s 35-point outburst in a 94-86 loss to the Sacramento Kings would have gone down as Wednesday’s Big Kahuna if Jahmir Young didn’t go nuclear. For that reason, and for the fact it was quite a one-dimensional performance that didn’t end up helping Cleveland’s case all that much. Proctor made 11 of 24 attempts from the field, finishing 7-of-10 on 2-point field goals despite a rather inefficient 4-of-14 clip from 3-point range. Proctor also tallied four rebounds and three assists in the loss.

Stay tuned for the rest of the week’s standouts at the conclusion of each day’s schedule.
