Dawn Staley, a three-time gold medal-winning Olympian and head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks, is well-known in women’s basketball circles. Her accomplishments as a former WNBA star and Team USA head coach, as well as leading her team to three NCAA national championships, speak for themselves.
Despite facing challenges as a minority in her field, Staley attributes her success to her faith, describing her journey as a testament to her beliefs. She emphasizes the role of a higher power in her many achievements.
During a training session in France with Tremaine Dalton, Technical Director of the NBA School in Portugal and a Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame candidate for 2025, I had the privilege of speaking with Coach Staley. She discussed her faith, maintaining perspective, and her enduring love for basketball.
