During the 2023-24 NCAAW season, two players stood out with multiple triple-doubles. One of them was Iowa’s Caitlin Clark, while the other was Marshall’s Abby Beeman.
Standing at just 5-foot-4, Abby led the Thundering Herd in points, rebounds, assists, and steals during her senior year. She is now making the move to Iceland to further her basketball career, marking her first time playing outside of West Virginia.
Abby shared her journey from Ridgeley, WV (population: 590) to Division II Shepherd University, then on to Marshall, and finally her upcoming adventure across the Atlantic. Some highlights from her conversation include:
Regarding earning the trust of her Marshall teammates after transferring from Shepherd University:
By being the hardest worker in the room, arriving early or on time, staying late to set an example for her teammates. She emphasized leading by example and doing the right thing to build trust with her teammates.
On the similarities between herself and Caitlin Clark:
Abby admires Caitlin for their similar basketball IQ, especially in passing. Despite the height difference, Abby believes they both excel in deep range shooting and passing. She appreciates their shared ability as good passers.
