After beginning her college career at LSU (2019-21), Domonique Davis transferred to Southern Mississippi (2021-24), winning all-conference honors over her three seasons with the Golden Eagles. Last year, she began her pro career in Hungary, and this season, she’ll suit up for perennial Romanian league champs, Sepsi.
From her porch, she spoke to Swish Appeal about her college coaches Nikki Fargas and Joye Lee-McNelis, transferring from LSU to Southern Miss and leaving the southern comfort behind in order to pursue her pro career overseas. Some highlights from our talk include:
On being a score-first point guard:
I actually got yelled at a lot for passing the ball, because I always wanted to get people involved. When I play basketball, whoever’s playing with me, I just want them to have fun. I want everybody to have the ball, move the ball. But I also like winning. So like, I know I got to score the ball to win. I’ve always been able to score the ball really well. I would say I have a knack for it, but I wouldn’t say I do score the ball a lot. I actually like passing the ball a lot more
On coach Nikki Fargas and LSU:
Coach Nikki was great; we still have a good relationship. But I really got recruited by the point guard coach that they had at the time. She really recruited me heavy and we built a great relationship. I didn’t get to play under her because I think she moved back closer home the year I was going to LSU. But Coach Nikki was great. She helped me with a lot of stuff off the court that I needed during the two years at LSU. We built a great relationship. She was great, you know. And I love her and appreciate her for the opportunity she gave me.
