UConn head coach Geno Auriemma made history on Wednesday night, becoming the winningest coach in NCAA basketball with a victory over Fairleigh Dickinson.
The No. 2-ranked Huskies defeated Fairleigh Dickinson 85-41, giving Auriemma the record-breaking win. Over 60 former players were present to celebrate Auriemma’s achievement, along with a live goat.
The postgame celebration honored Auriemma’s milestone and his 40 seasons coaching alongside Chris Dailey at UConn. Former players, including Sue Bird, spoke during the ceremony, commending Auriemma and Dailey for their hard work and dedication.
Postgame, Paige Bueckers praised Auriemma’s humility and credited him for the success of the program despite his tendency to downplay his own achievements.
Bueckers and her teammates also paid tribute to Dailey by wearing blonde bob wigs after the game.
Auriemma shared credit with his players, emphasizing the impact they have had on each other’s lives throughout his coaching career.
Auriemma’s record-breaking win adds to his impressive list of accomplishments, including 11 national championships, undefeated seasons, and a remarkable winning percentage.
Congratulations, Geno!
