The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced that former outfielder Dusty Baker will be inducted into the “Legends of Dodger Baseball.” Baker’s induction will take place during the Dodgers’ “Alumni Weekend” in August.
During his time with the Dodgers from 1976-83, Baker had some of the best years of his playing career. He was a two-time MLB All-Star, National League Conference Series MVP, a two-time Silver Slugger, and a Gold Glove winner. Baker also won the World Series with the Dodgers in 1981.
Expressing his gratitude, Baker said to Cary Osborne of Dodger Insider, “It’s a tremendous honor. And, it’s a bit of a surprise, especially for a kid from Riverside that used to listen to all the Dodger games and Vin Scully. All the Dodger greats that I used to copy and emulate, it’s a little strange for me to be up there honored with them.”
Baker will join seven other Dodgers in the esteemed Legends of Dodger Baseball: Don Newcombe, Kirk Gibson, Fernando Valenzuela, Maury Wills, Manny Mota, Steve Garvey, and Orel Hershiser.
In addition to his time with the Dodgers, Baker also played for the Atlanta Braves, San Francisco Giants, and Oakland Athletics. After retiring as a player, he went on to have a successful career as a manager and coach for teams such as the Giants, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals, and Houston Astros. Baker was named the National League Manager of the Year three times and led the Astros to a World Series title in 2022.
