New Indiana Fever Point Guard Sends Message to Injured Teammates originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The Indiana Fever have a new point guard. If Odyssey Sims’ first interview was any indication, they found an ideal teammate to bring in for the rest of the WNBA season.

Why Did the Fever Sign Odyssey Sims?

With superstar Caitlin Clark out indefinitely due to a groin injury, Indiana had turned to veteran backup Sydney Colson and midseason pickup Aari McDonald to run the point. They accrued a 9-9 record without Clark, winning the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup along the way.

Colson (ACL) and McDonald (broken foot) both suffered season-ending injuries on Thursday against the Phoenix Mercury, leaving head coach Stephanie White with no available point guards.

Kelsey Mitchell, Sophie Cunningham and Lexie Hull shared the position and sparked a 92-70 win over the Chicago Sky on Saturday. Sims signed a hardship contract on Sunday, giving the Fever a more natural point guard replacement until Clark returns.

Odyssey Sims Shouts Out Injured Players: “Love Them Both”

After her first practice on Monday, Sims did not hesitate to send her love to the two injured players she was replacing in the backcourt.

“The biggest thing is just doing what I do best,” Sims said of what she will bring to the Fever. Playing defense, playing hard, doing whatever the team needs.”

“I know they’ve been down with the injuries,” she acknowledged. “Prayers up for Syd and Aari, love them both.”

With little time to learn the playbook before Indiana takes on the Dallas Wings on Tuesday, Sims emphasized keeping things simple and playing with a smile on her face.

“I’m not going to do too much,” Sims said. “Whatever coach tells me to do is what I’m going to do, and have fun and enjoy my teammates.”

The No. 2 overall in the 2014 WNBA Draft, Sims comes in with a proven pedigree. She was an NCAA champion at Baylor in 2012 and a WNBA All-Star with the Minnesota Lynx in 2019.

The 33-year-old has played 12 games for the Los Angeles Sparks in 2025, averaging 9.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
