This week on Steam: Five new medieval games invite you to build castles and fight battles – plus many more releases ranging from strategy to sci-fi.
Are you in the mood for castle building, intrigue, and knightly battles? Then this week is made for you: Five new Steam releases let you immerse yourself in the Middle Ages.
As always, we’ve got you covered with an overview of the new releases on Steam that will add some variety to your library.
The five medieval games of the week
Normally, we pick a single highlight of the week, but this time there is no clear favorite. So we’re doing things differently: instead of one big star, this week you get a compact Top Five of the new medieval games
Knights of the Crusades (Early Access)
(Genre: Real-time strategy, sandbox – Developer: Solarsword Studio – Release: May 5, 2025 (Steam)
Strategists take note! This genre mix of real-time strategy, city building, and sandbox takes you back to the time of the Crusades. You start as a small order in the Holy Land and build settlements, train knights, and forge alliances. In Early Access, you can already fight epic battles and write your own crusader saga.
Yes, Your Grace 2: Snowfall
(Genre: Management RPG – Developer: Brave At Night – Release: May 8, 2025 (Steam)
Yes, Your Grace 2: Snowfall puts you back in the role of a ruler who wants to restore his kingdom to its former glory after the turmoil of the last war. But an endless winter has covered the land in snow and ice, while in the throne room, a line of subjects begs for help day after day.
Each supplicant brings their own problems, curious stories, or brazen demands. Now it’s up to you to decide: Will you support them generously or save your scarce resources for worse times?
As in the first part, you juggle gold, supplies, and soldiers to keep your empire alive – but Snowfall takes it up a notch. This time, you hire various agents, from cunning spies to battle-hardened shield maidens, who will assist you with their unique abilities.
While uncovering intrigues and fending off monsters, you must also keep an eye on your family: your children are growing up, and your decisions will influence their fate as well as that of your kingdom.
Age of Empires 2: DE – The Three Kingdoms (DLC)
(Genre: Real-time strategy – Developer: Forgotten Empires / Tantalus Media – Release: May 6, 2025 (Steam)
This expansion for the Definitive Edition of AOE 2 takes you to ancient China during the Three Kingdoms period. Three brand-new campaigns let you relive the epic Romance of the Three Kingdoms, choosing to fight for Wei, Shu, or Wu, each with unique units and heroes. Historical battles such as the Battle of Red Cliffs are recreated here in detail.
Drop Duchy
(Genre: Puzzle, Building – Developer: Mantle Games – Release: May 5, 2025 (Steam)
Tetris meets kingdom building. In this crisp puzzle roguelite, you don’t stack simple lines, but build your own little empire with falling blocks. Each shape you place becomes a castle wall or a path that you use to fend off monsters and collect resources.
Darfall
Genre: Building, Action RPG – Developer: SquareNite – Release: May 8, 2025 (Steam)
Build cities by day, fight monster hordes by night: Darfall combines city-building strategy with action RPG. During the day, you gather resources, construct buildings, and equip your hero and his troops.
But as soon as darkness falls, evil creeps out of its holes: hordes of undead storm your settlement and the game turns into a Diablo-esque defense battle in which you must defend your base.

Stellaris: BioGenesis (DLC): In Biogenesis, you become the master of genes and delve deep into creation. You develop living spaceships, manipulate entire ecosystems, and experiment with the DNA of entire species.
Tuesday, May 6
Trench Tales (Early Access): This third-person shooter mixes horror with war action. Trench Tales puts you in a dark parallel world scenario somewhere between World War I and World War II. In trenches filled with corpses, you face grotesque monsters and insane soldiers.
Riot Control Simulator: Rookie Day: In this free prologue, you slip into the uniform of a rookie police officer. Your task: After a heated soccer derby, you must subdue rioting fans and restore order. It’s important to proceed tactically – wildly beating people up is not a good idea (and unprofessional!). Instead, you place fences, coordinate your colleagues, and decide in a split second whether tear gas or de-escalation is the better approach.
Among Us 3D: You can now experience the popular traitor game from a pursuer’s perspective and look your suspicious crew members straight in the eye. The tried-and-tested formula remains unchanged: complete tasks on the space station, engage in heated discussions in emergency meetings, and try not to get stabbed in the back by your friends

Survival Machine (Early Access): The zombie apocalypse is rolling in – literally! In this co-op survival game, you build your base on a huge moving machine that chugs leisurely through the game world. During the day, you must expand your mobile fortress, construct traps and towers, and gather resources on board – and at night, hordes of undead climb onto your vehicle and try to kill you.
RailGods of Hysterra (Early Access): Lovecraft sends his regards: RailGods of Hysterra sends you on rails through a post-apocalyptic nightmare land. However, your train is no ordinary train – it is a living, grotesque creature, your RailGod In Early Access, you control this monstrous locomotive (alone or in co-op with up to five players) across dilapidated tracks, collecting resources and converting carriages into workshops or turrets. Along the way, you’ll have to survive tentacled horrors and insane cultists.
Deck of Haunts: This deck-building roguelike turns the horror genre on its head, because here you are the haunted house! In Deck of Haunts, you take on the role of a vengeful mansion full of ghosts. Lure curious people into your walls and terrify them with cleverly played horror cards. Each round, you expand your house of horrors with new rooms, more traps, and gruesome inhabitants.

The Midnight Walk: A first-person adventure game whose entire world has been brought to life with modeling clay and stop-motion animation. You roam as a small creature with a glowing lantern through dark fantasy landscapes reminiscent of Tim Burton’s eerie film worlds. Along the way, you must solve puzzles and escape sinister creatures.
Pixelshire: This pixelated building game lets you build your own village in a picturesque 2D world – but with a twist: you can design the landscape yourself! Use your shovel to dig rivers or build hills to shape your paradise exactly as you want it. Of course, you can also cultivate fields, make friends with your charming neighbors, and go monster hunting together.
Doloc Town (Early Access): Fallout meets Stardew Valley? In this farming sim, you manage your own little farm. But surprise: the world around you is a wasteland after the apocalypse. Among the decaying ruins, you plant vegetables, tame strange creatures, and build a new home piece by piece.
Revenge of the Savage Planet: This brightly colored sci-fi action-adventure sequel sends you on another satirical journey through alien worlds. As intergalactic explorers, you jump, climb, and shoot your way through a variety of vibrant alien biomes. Always at your side: a sarcastic AI companion and lots of wacky gadgets that you can cobble together from collected resources.
Creature Keeper: SNES Zelda meets Pokémon – that’s the best way to describe Creature Keeper. This retro-style action RPG doesn’t just throw you into battle alone; you can tame the creatures you fight and recruit them as allies.
Spirit of the North 2: As a fox-like quadruped, you explore picturesque Nordic environments full of ancient ruins, snow-covered mountains, and dancing northern lights. This time, you are accompanied by a raven as a loyal companion who helps you solve puzzles and gives you hints. Like its predecessor, the gameplay focuses on a more tranquil tone: you solve environmental puzzles, jump skillfully over cliffs, and let yourself be enchanted by the atmospheric music and the beauty of nature.
Even though there aren’t any big blockbusters this week, there’s still more than enough to browse and discover. Medieval fans in particular will get their money’s worth – and there’s sure to be something for everyone else too.
