New Pals, gear, fishing, and more

The latest major Palworld update has arrived on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on June 25, 2025, and it brings with it lots of long-awaited Terraria crossover content. As last week’s stylish animated trailer showed us, a whole bunch of stuff from the classic 2D survival crafting RPG is making its way to Palworld. However, it’s not all crossover stuff, as this update brings the usual dose of new content for the game, including Pals to catch and islands to explore.

We’ll run down everything in this new update so you know what to be on the lookout for when you jump into your worlds.

Starting with the fun stuff, we’ve got a few new Pals to catch, ranging from frosty jellyfish, to tropical tree-birds, to squid girls that look suspiciously based on Hololive’s Ninomae Ina’nis.

That’s not all though, as you will also be able to train various Terraria monsters as if they were Pals. Trailers have showcased that the differently-coloured slimes will be available, and yes… this includes the Eye of C’thulhu.

In addition, new skins are available for Chillet, Jetragon, and Anubis, all Pals can now swim, and Pocketpair added four new Water Skills, two new Grass Skills, one new Ice Skill, and a dozen new Unique Skills as well as some Passive Skills to the game, giving us plenty of fresh options to customize our Pals. The new Pal Surgery Table allows you to overwrite Passive Skills and change Pals’ genders, while the Large Incubator can hatch several Eggs at once. That should make Pal breeding a lot easier in the future.

There is also the Palbox Control Device, which enables you to access your Palbox freely from anywhere in your base — a great quality-of-life improvement when it comes to raid defense.

A trust system that improves Pals’ stats and the ability to cuddle with Pals in our sleep round out the Pal-related changes in this update.

There needs to be a place to put all these new Pals, though, and that’s where the new islands enter the equation. Three brand-new island types can be found in the world: Tropical Islands, Iceberg Islands, and Shipwreck Islands.

Treasure Maps invite you to further explore new and familiar locations and earn some unexpected rewards.

Take care, though: Enemy factions can now build bases similar to your own and will defend their territory with all they’ve got. Raiding these locations can be lucrative, though, providing you with faction-specific building blueprints.

Alongside the “Pals” originating from Terraria, you can now challenge a special Terraria-inspired Dungeon with enemies from the game. This is where you can farm the necessary resources to craft some Terraria gear — six weapons and seven armor pieces have made their way over to Palworld.

Naturally, this all comes with a catch: The mighty Moon Lord has invaded your world and can be tackled as a new raid boss.

The fact that a survival crafting game like this has gone this long without fishing is frankly astonishing, but you can finally craft a rod and get out there, reeling in a bunch of Pals and goodies — including some new ores for crafting. Simply keep an eye out for patches of water with fish shadows moving below the surface and cast your rod there.

Alternatively, you can build the new Fishing Pond in your base to catch your prey in a more familiar atmosphere.

Rather disturbingly, it is possible to catch humans in Palworld, but if you’d rather take the more friendly approach, you can now recruit companions to fight alongside you. Zoe from the first boss tower has been confirmed as a recruitable companion. When you speak to her, she’ll have some missions for you — complete these and you’ll earn her trust, prompting her to fight side-by-side with you.

Zoe isn’t the only NPC with missions for you: Islanders from all over Palpagos will entrust you with quests and provide rich rewards for completing them. You can find these quest givers in the overhauled settlements on the map, which are now larger and livelier than ever before.

Alongside all of the above changes, the level cap rises to 65, the PS5 version now has dedicated servers, a new type of futuristic building material is available, air turbulences allow you to jump much higher, five non-crossover weapons, two item types, and new food recipes have been added, and the arena welcomes challengers in single-player mode.
