New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll announced on Tuesday afternoon that the players have chosen five teammates to serve as team captains for the 2024 season. The captains are quarterback Daniel Jones and left tackle Andrew Thomas on offense, defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence and linebacker Bobby Okereke on defense, and long snapper Casey Kreiter on special teams.
Speaking to reporters, Daboll shared, “Players voted for captains today. There will be five of them. Casey Kreiter on special teams. Daniel Jones and Andrew Thomas on offense. Dexter and Bobby on defense. Those were voted by their teammates.”
Unlike the previous season when 10 players were voted as captains, this year’s selection was more concise. Among the previous captains, Jones, Thomas, Lawrence, and Okereke were included in the group.
Daboll made the announcement during his media session at 1:30 p.m. EDT, just before the deadline for final roster cuts. As a result, he did not have official information on the final roster composition, which players were retained or released, and when the official roster announcement would be made.
The Giants’ beat reporters were left puzzled as they prepared to observe practice with the remaining players on the roster.
Awkward Daboll presser where he wouldn’t confirm or deny who’s on the roster even though we’re about to see at practice. Based on his answers, it seems like Tommy DeVito, Gunner Olszewski, Dyontae Johnson, Matthew Adams and Gervarrius Owens made the “original” 53. We’ll see for…

Daboll refrained from divulging any details as general manager Joe Schoen was likely still in negotiations for potential trades and awaiting updates from the medical team regarding the status of some players.
