In an exciting new development, the National Hockey League and DAZN have joined hands to boost accessibility to NHL games. DAZN is slated to become the exclusive home of the NHL.TV in about 200 countries from the upcoming season, paving the way for international growth.
The NHL announced: “Under the new partnership, NHL.TV will be available on DAZN as a standalone subscription or as an add-on to existing DAZN packages, across markets of operation in nearly 200 countries around the world, excluding the U.S., Canada, and the Nordics (Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden).
“NHL.TV will be promoted and integrated across the DAZN platform to its fast-growing base of more than 120 million registered sports fans. Fans will be able to access NHL.TV on any device on which DAZN is available, including smart TVs, mobile devices, tablets, and gaming consoles, providing maximum flexibility.”
This is a monumental change, and its announcement has triggered considerable discourse in the community, as expected.

NHL hopes to use DAZN’s phenomenal resources, such as “market-leading technology, global distribution infrastructure, and powerful marketing capabilities,” to reach a wider audience worldwide.

But fans are conflicted. Most importantly, NHL fans from Canada voiced their discontent; Canadians stream NHL games on Sportsnet+ Premium and have complained about the platform’s inferior service.
“Would love this for Canadians. The cost and product from Sportsnet is awful and as die hard a fan I am, not paying for it. Lost opportunity.” Another fan from Canada echoed their views. “DAZN is honestly the best streaming app for sports. Shame Canadians still gotta watch it on Sportnet.”

A third pointed out that DAZN was an expensive platform to begin with and would perhaps become even more inaccessible with this new development. “DAZN was already really expensive. Wonder how much they’ll jack up prices now. 45 bucks a month?” Another social media user had similar views when they called the platform out for its expensive subscription package. “The price of dazn is like $25-30 a month. They aren’t going to grow anything at that price.”
Debate aside, this move is set to redefine the viewing experience. DAZN will unlock a new world for the NHL, ushering in new possibilities and opportunities.
