LEBANON, Ill. | Leemon Field – 13th-ranked McKendree University women’s soccer (7-1-0, 3-1-0 GLVC) battled the Panthers of Drury University (RV) on a soggy, waterlogged Friday night with the visitor taking the result, 2-0, over the Bearcats. McKendree collected offensive opportunities early in the game but were unable to capitalize on the chances while the wind fought the Bearcats in the second half. McKendree is back in action on Sunday, September 29 with SBU coming to the Bearcats’ home turf for a 12:00PM kickoff.
The No.13 Bearcats were in a multitude of goal-scoring opportunities, pressuring the Panthers with seven first half shots and four on-frame, including a near free-kick bomb goal by sophomore defender Zoe Cormier, which hammered the crossbar. McKendree and Drury sat tied at nil-nil going into the halfitme intermission period.
The second half saw more driving rainfall on the Bearcats and Panthers with Drury firing two scores. McKendree battled back with a number of late opportunities but the home squad was unable to find the back of the net. In total, six Bearcats fired shots with four sending on-goal attempts in seniro midfielder Katie Spotanski, senior forward Gillian Nicholson, senior forward Anna Stiffler, and sophomore midfielder Maggie Gleckler.
