The GIST: After five months and six world record-setting crowds, the stage is set for the inaugural PWHL champion to be crowned in tonight’s winner-take-all Game 5 between No. 4 Minnesota and No. 3 Boston at 7 p.m. ET. Let’s get ready for it.
How we got here: Minnesota took a 2-1 best-of-five series lead with a dominant 4-1 win in Game 3. They thought they had clinched the title with Sophie Jaques’ double overtime (OT) goal in Game 4, but it was overturned for goalie interference. Boston’s Alina Müller then scored the OT game-winner, leading to tonight’s decisive Game 5 in Boston.
Game 5 preview: After a high-scoring series, Game 4 turned into a goalie battle, with Boston’s Aerin Frankel making 33 saves and Minnesota’s Nicole Hensley making 32. Expect both goalies to be on top of their game once again tonight with the championship on the line.
On the offensive side, Boston’s Müller has found her groove with two goals in her last two games, while Minnesota’s Taylor Heise leads all playoff scorers with five goals in nine games.
