WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Korin Baker delivered a dominant performance, nearly equaling a program single-game scoring record with 32 points to go along with 12 rebounds and the No. 5 Whitman College women’s basketball team raced to an 80-56 win over Pacific in Northwest Conference action on Saturday night at the Sherwood Center.
The night was also a special one for seniors Natalie Lundberg, Lindsey Drango, Christiane Carlisle, Carly Martin and Baker who were honored with a Senior Night celebration prior to tipoff.
Baker’s scoring output also put her 12 points away from the all-time scoring record of 1,693 currently held by Katie Rubenser. She added three steals to her double double performance and was as efficient as ever in shooting 15-17 from the floor.
Martin and Lundberg also put their stamp on the game for the Blues (22-1, 14-0 NWC) who are now two wins away from only the program’s third undefeated conference season. Martin added 14 points, four assists, two blocks and two steals, and Lundberg chipped in four points, five assists and seven boards.
Anya Henderson and Keiki McGee led the Boxers with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Whitman trailed after the opening quarter, but grabbed the lead by halftime and expanded it to double digits by the end of a high-scoring third quarter from both teams. The Blues led by 12 entering the fourth quarter, but a 7-0 run capped by a Carlisle three pointer quickly turned the game into a rout as Whitman coasted to the win.
The Blues play their regular season home finale when they host Whitworth on Tuesday in the latest edition of the Battle of the Whits. Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m.
