WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Korin Baker had an outstanding performance with 26 points and 14 rebounds, Carly Martin contributed 21 points and five assists, leading the No. 8 Whitman College women’s basketball team to a dominant 77-49 victory over Willamette. The game took place on Saturday night at the Sherwood Center in a showdown between top Northwest Conference teams.
Christiane Carlisle scored 13 points with a 50% three-point shooting percentage (4-8) for the Blues, who shot 42% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc. Baker, currently ranking third in all-time scoring, had an impressive 10-14 shooting record.
The first quarter was evenly matched as both teams played a competitive game. Carlisle made two three-pointers in Whitman’s first three possessions. The Bearcats responded with a three-pointer and a score, taking a 12-10 lead with 1:51 remaining. Baker then scored three consecutive jumpers to tie the game at the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter, the Blues took control, going on an 8-1 run to gain the advantage. Despite a tie early in the quarter, Whitman pulled ahead 29-22 with Martin and Lundberg contributing to the lead. Baker’s three-point play increased the lead to five points at halftime.
The second half was dominated by the Blues, securing their undefeated record (12-1, 4-0 NWC) in the Northwest Conference. Martin extended the lead with an 8-0 run, hitting two three-pointers and a field goal to go up 42-29 with 7:25 left in the game.
Whitman continued to build on their lead, eventually winning by 32 points in the fourth quarter.
Next, Whitman will hit the road to face Pacific University and George Fox.
