UFC veteran Michael Chandler has given his thoughts on potentially losing out on fighting Conor McGregor at UFC White House.
For years now, Michael Chandler has been chasing down a fight against Conor McGregor. The American has cut promo after promo on the Irishman, making it crystal clear that he wants that bout – and the payday that comes alongside it. Unfortunately, it’s never quite come to fruition, with the closest call being when the contest was actually booked for UFC 303 in Las Vegas.
Due to an injury, Conor McGregor was unable to compete, and the dream fight was off for Michael Chandler. Even in the present day, it felt like it could go down at the big UFC White House card in the summer, only for UFC boss Dana White to suggest recently that the promotion had moved on from that idea.
In a recent interview, Michael Chandler provided a more positive outlook as we get closer and closer to that massive White House card.
Michael Chandler on not fighting Conor McGregor
“Obviously, as Dana and they have said, they’re going to start that matchmaking on Monday talking about the White House card. Everybody knows that’s what my sights are set on.
“Best‑case scenario, it’s me and Conor. Worst‑case scenario, I’m still fighting at the White House and fighting someone else, and it will be an awesome badass matchup and I will steal the show and I will end up with one of those bonuses.”
Many have mocked Chandler for constantly clinging on to the idea of facing McGregor, but when you really break it down, it certainly is a shame that he probably isn’t going to get the kind of major payday that he deserves. Either way, though, it sounds like he’ll be back in the cage sooner rather than later.
