Not Just WNBA Chapter, but Sue Bird’s Other Career Gets Judged by NCAA Starlet Asia Avinger (Exclusive)

“How you do one thing is how you do everything,” the adage holds apt for Sue Bird. When the Seattle Storm retired Bird’s No. 10 jersey in 2023, the ceremony which was slated for 45 minutes extended to almost three hours and had Bird enchanting the audience with her communication skills. Maybe it was a sign that Bird had accepted her second inning with grace and, much like basketball, chose to excel in it. Therefore, when EssentiallySports had an exclusive chat with Georgia Bulldogs star Asia Avinger, she admitted to idolizing Bird, but not because of her basketball career.

Avinger was asked by our correspondent BG12 on the Dual Threat Show to name three creators that she would choose for their brilliant work. Avinger took some time before naming Bird and giving the reason for the same. Let us have a look at it:

Asia Avinger: “I’m going put one, Sue Bird coz Sue Bird’s a great athlete. But also, I love what she’s doing on the media side. Like she, she has a show with Diana Taurasi as well, and what they do during March Madness and the games that, that are playing, they have their own talk show hosts and they get to freely commentate on however they like to do. But, I really like her, I really like the way she dresses too.”

Bird started the Bird and the Taurasi Show with her former Team USA teammate Diana Taurasi in 2022. Together, they provided an alternative to play-by-play broadcasts, topping it up with jokes that made the basketball knowledge consumable to a mass audience. The show often has guests such as Jason Sudeikis or Breanna Stewart among others who provide an enriching experience.

Apart from that, Bird is a co-founder of joint ventures such as TOGETHXR and A Touch More. While TOGETHXR is a media and commerce company established to provide more support to women athletes and sports, Bird founded A Touch More in collaboration with her fiancé Megan Rapinoe to “center stories of revolutionaries who move culture forward.” Hence, Bird has been doing her part and also entertaining fans along the way. Bird had already furthered her reach when she started going on Instagram live during the pandemic to provide moments of relief during unprecedented times. The live sessions became so famous that Bird eventually crafted A Touch More Live with her fiance Rapinoe. To further the ever-growing influence of her podcast, she has also brought on Vox Media to relaunch and expand its repertoire. Thus, Bird has been scaling heights much like how she did in her balling career.

The podcast will have audio and weekly episodes, which will be co-distributed by TOGETHXR. Hence, the founders are doing everything in their hand to make it one of the most liked podcasts for the fans.

Perhaps, it is this creative spirit that attracts not only Avinger but other budding athletes as well. As for Bird, she can continue to bask in the glory and continue her on-song performances off the court.
