The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced that two former franchise greats will be throwing out the first pitch in the first two games of the National League Championship Series. The Dodgers will be hosting the first two games of the NLCS against the New York Mets at Dodger Stadium.
Manny Ramirez, who played for the Dodgers from 2008-10, will have the honor of throwing out the first pitch before Game 1 of the NLCS on Sunday. Ramirez, known for his time with the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Guardians, will have the opportunity to be a part of the Dodgers’ important playoff game since 2021.
Throughout his 18-year career, Ramirez was a 12-time MLB All-Star, won two World Series titles, and was named the World Series MVP in 2004. With a .312 batting average, 2,574 hits, 555 home runs, and 1,831 RBIs, Ramirez made a lasting impact on the sport.
In his most productive season as a Dodger in 2009, Ramirez hit 19 home runs and recorded 63 RBIs in 104 games.
Former Dodger Shawn Green will be throwing out the first pitch before Game 2 on Monday. Green, who played for the Dodgers from 2000-04, previously held the franchise single-season home run record with 49 home runs in 2001. His record was recently broken by Shohei Ohtani, who hit 54 home runs this season.
Before Ohtani broke his record, Green expressed his admiration for Ohtani, calling him “the greatest baseball player who ever lived.” Green also played for the New York Mets, spending the 2006 and 2007 seasons with the team before retiring from MLB.
