LEXINGTON, N.C. — Investigators now say a refrigerator inside a motorhome is the most likely cause of the fire that killed three family members Tuesday morning on Kimberly Lane, according to a newly released report from the Davidson County Fire Marshal’s Office.Â
The house fire, which began around 4:30 a.m. on Nov. 25, started in a motorhome parked beside the residence and quickly spread to the home where five people were asleep, officials said. Two adults escaped. Three others — a woman, her sister and her 3-year-old daughter — did not survive.
The three people who died in the fire have been identified as:
Firefighters pulled Maddy from the home and rushed her to the hospital, but she later died from her injuries. Webster said the two adult women were already dead by the time crews reached them.
Family members told WFMY News 2 the household had been preparing to celebrate Thanksgiving together this past Saturday.
Deputy Fire Marshal John Webster confirmed to WFMY News 2 that smoke alarms were inside the home, but none were functioning.
The Fire Investigation Task Force said that an unspecified refrigerator failure inside the motorhome likely ignited the blaze before it spread to the home.
