The best fight on UFC 315 is no more.
Multiple reports over the weekend confirmed that the clash between No. 13-ranked Benoit Saint-Denis and rising Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight Joel Alvarez will not take place at this weekend’s pay-per-view (PPV) event in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
On Sunday, Alvarez verified the news via Instagram.
And unfortunately, Alvarez confirmed the news on his Instagram on Sunday.
“Hey there, everyone. I’m out of my fight at UFC 315 due to a hand injury that [left] me unable to start punching for 3 weeks,” Alvarez wrote. “There are many factors that are not in our hands and we cannot control. Camp had been perfect so far. We will be back this year, reformed and with a different focus. Thank you very much to everyone, always for the support, you are the best.”
The loss of Alvarez vs. Saint-Denis is a huge blow for the card, as the matchup promised explosive action. Both fighters boast 100 percent finish rates, with a combined 26 submissions and nine knockouts.
It remains unclear whether Saint-Denis will stay on the card, but updates are expected very soon.
Two Lightweight contenders have stepped forward to face Saint-Denis: Mauricio Ruffy, fresh off a stunning knockout of Bobby Green, and Mateusz Rebecki, inactive since his Fight of the Year contender against Myktybek Orolbai last October.
Ei, UFC! Que tal um main event em um Fight Night contra Saint Denis?
