USWNT and NWSL star Kelley O’Hara has officially been placed on Gotham FC’s season-ending injury list due to “chronic knee degeneration,” the club announced on Saturday.
Set to retire at the end of the season, this news means O’Hara played her final professional match on September 8th. Gotham FC will honor O’Hara’s illustrious career on October 20th when they play Orlando in their last regular-season home game.
Gotham and KC Clinch NWSL Playoff Spots
With four of the eight 2024 NWSL playoff spots now filled, Gotham FC and Kansas City have secured their spots in the postseason this weekend.
On Friday, Kansas City impressed with a 3-0 victory over the Washington Spirit, led by Temwa Chawinga’s 16th goal of the season.
The Spirit’s loss was marred by Trinity Rodman’s injury and Lena Silano’s red card in stoppage time.
On Sunday, Gotham FC sealed their playoff place with a 1-0 win against Utah in New Jersey.
Gotham FC Makes History at the White House
Following a busy week with three matches, Gotham FC made history by becoming the first NWSL club to visit the White House for an official team celebration on Monday.
While the USWNT has visited the White House for winning the World Cup, only one women’s soccer club has ever been honored. Sky Blue FC, now Gotham, was honored by Obama in 2010 for their WPS championship in 2009.
President Joe Biden, NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman, and members of the 2023 championship team, including retired defender Ali Krieger, were present for the celebration.
Krieger was also named Gotham’s first-ever team ambassador on Thursday.
