World No. 22 Ons Jabeur has been forced to end her 2024 tennis season early due to a persistent shoulder injury. The Tunisian star has announced that she will not be participating in any more tournaments this year as she focuses on her recovery.
Jabeur, who only played one match during the summer hard-court swing—a 6-3 6-1 first-round loss to Naomi Osaka in Toronto—shared the news on her Instagram stories:
Due to my ongoing shoulder injury, my team and I have made the difficult decision to step off the tennis circuit for the rest of the season.
The shoulder issue, which caused Jabeur to withdraw from both Washington and Cincinnati, also led to her missing the US Open, making this a challenging time in her 2024 campaign. This injury is just the latest in a series of health struggles she has faced this year. A right knee problem, which required surgery last year, forced her to withdraw from the WTA 1000 event in Dubai earlier this season. Additionally, she had to retire from her quarterfinal match against Coco Gauff in Berlin due to illness, resulting in her dropping out of the Top 10 rankings in July.
Despite being absent from competition, Jabeur is committed to making a positive impact off the court. In her statement, she highlighted her dedication to philanthropy during her recovery:
