DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The Baseball Sciences department at the Boston Red Sox uses cutting-edge research, data, and technology to improve player performance, development, and team success. They apply principles from biomechanics, sports science, data analytics, and artificial intelligence to drive innovation both on and off the field. Working closely with coaches, medical staff, and front-office personnel, the team develops evidence-based strategies to maximize athletic potential, enhance player health, and optimize in-game performance. The department is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of sports science in baseball to keep the Red Sox at the forefront of technological advancements in the sport.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Boston Red Sox are looking for a forward-thinking Baseball Sciences Associate for the 2025 season to focus on improving on-field performance and reducing injury risks. This role involves processing, analyzing, and applying various data sources like motion capture data, force plates, wearable sensors, and computer vision analysis to implement evidence-based strategies across the organization in collaboration with other key stakeholders. The position runs throughout the 2025 season, with a preference for candidates available from February to October. Candidates with expertise in biomechanics modeling and musculoskeletal simulation may have the option to be based in Boston, MA for closer collaboration with the Lead Biomechanist.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Pursuing or recently completed an undergraduate or advanced degree (e.g., MS, MA, Ph.D.) in fields such as data science, computer science, computer vision, biomechanics, engineering, statistics, applied math, physics, quantitative social sciences, or operations research. Proficiency in SQL, programming languages R and/or Python, and experience with biomechanical data are preferred. Additional experience with computer vision or OpenSim is a plus.
