Sauber’s 2025 driver criteria have been outlined by Mattia Binotto, and the potential contenders have been revealed.
With only two seats left to fill in the 2025 F1 driver line-up, one at Sauber and one at RB, decisions need to be made.
Sauber has already signed Nico Hulkenberg from Haas, but they are considering whether to retain current driver Valtteri Bottas or Zhou Guanyu, or bring in a rookie driver.
Discussions have reportedly taken place regarding potential candidates like Gabriel Bortoleto and Robert Shwartzman with McLaren and Ferrari respectively.
Sauber also tested Shwartzman during FP1 in Zandvoort under the young driver rule.
Other options from Sauber’s academy include Zane Maloney and Theo Pourchaire.
Despite his career being at risk, there is optimism for veteran Bottas as the team appears to be leaning towards retaining him for his experience.
