Naomi Osaka is reshuffling her coaching team, parting ways with Patrick Mouratoglou and eyeing a fresh start with coach Tomasz Wiktorowski. The four-time Grand Slam champion announced the split from Mouratoglou on Sunday, just ahead of a trial collaboration with Wiktorowski at the Omnium Banque Nationale in Montreal.

“Merci, Patrick,” she wrote in an Instagram story. “It was such a great experience learning from you. Wishing you nothing but the best. You’re one of the coolest people I’ve ever met and I’m sure I’ll see you around.”

The news came just days after Osaka fell to Emma Raducanu in the second round of the Mubadala Citi DC Open, and with the US Open approaching on August 24, the timing signals her urgency to recalibrate. Currently ranked No. 49, Osaka has compiled a 21–11 record this season but hasn’t advanced past the third round of a Grand Slam since her 2021 Australian Open title run.

Mouratoglou, best known for his decade-long coaching stint with Serena Williams, joined Osaka’s team last year after she parted ways with Wim Fissette. While their 10-month partnership had flashes of promise, it ultimately didn’t provide the breakthrough Osaka was seeking in her post-maternity comeback.

According to Polski-Tennis.pl, Wiktorowski has accepted an invitation from Osaka to join her in Montreal for a trial period. He is best known for guiding Agnieszka Radwanska to a Wimbledon final and a career-high ranking of No. 2, and later for playing a central role in Iga Swiatek’s ascent to world No. 1. Since splitting with Swiatek last fall, he has remained off the tour—until now.

Osaka’s agent, Stuart Duguid, confirmed that Wiktorowski will observe her this week in Montreal to assess whether a more formal coaching partnership makes sense.
