Owls close out campaign at Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio — The Kenyon College women’s basketball team suited up for the final time this season on Saturday afternoon as the Owls took on the Oberlin College Yeowomen on the road. Kenyon jumped ahead in the opening possessions, but the visitors could not keep it going as Oberlin prevailed. 76-53. in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) clash.

With the loss, the Owls close their 2025-26 campaign with a 6-19 (1-13 NCAC) overall record. Oberlin improved to 8-17 overall, and their 4-10 conference record clinched the Yeowomen’s spot in the upcoming six-team NCAC Tournament.

Kenyon came out hot to start the game, as sophomore Alyssa Horsley made the first basket to put the Owls on top early. The hot start continued as senior Anissa Hardy converted layups on consecutive trips, putting Kenyon ahead 6-2 as the Owls were a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor. Sophomore Susannah Zimmerman facilitated the strong offensive opening, assisting on all three of the early makes.

Unfortunately for the Owls, their six-point start would stall as Oberlin began to pull away. Kenyon’s offense had a seven-minute drought that saw the Yeowomen go on an 11-0 run. Both offenses picked it up in the second quarter, but the Owls could not catch Oberlin as the home team held the lead for the rest of the game.

Hardy led Kenyon with 12 points, her season’s 10th double-digit scoring effort. She also had three rebounds to bring her final career Kenyon totals to 542 points and 531 rebounds.

First-year Lauren Munoz was one off her season-high in scoring, finishing second on the team with seven points. Zimmerman finished with four assists to pace the Owls and tie for a game-high. First-year Abby Burdette pulled down five rebounds to lead Kenyon and tie her season-best on the boards.

Oberlin benefitted from five double-figure scorers, including a game-high 19 points from Angela Kumler, who also tied game-bests with seven rebounds and four assists and led all players with six steals.
