GREENCASTLE, Ind. – Susannah Zimmerman went 6-for-8 at the three free throw line and led the Kenyon College women’s basketball team with a dozen points Saturday, but the Owls were overpowered, 86-29, by the host Tigers of DePauw University.
The result of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) contest dropped Kenyon’s overall record to 2-20 and its conference mark to 0-12. On the other bench, DePauw improved to 17-5 overall and 11-1 in NCAC play.
Like Zimmerman, the rest of the Owls fared well at the charity stripe, going 12-for-14 as a team, but struggled with shooting accuracy from the field. Alyssa Horsley added 11 points to the Owls’ total, while Chiara Nevard scored four and Katherine Organ added two.
DePauw established control early, building a substantial lead in the first quarter and maintained its defensive pressure throughout the game. The Tigers shot an efficient 50 percent from the field (33-for-66) and 34.8 percent from three-point range, while holding Kenyon to 21.6 percent shooting overall.
Moira McGinley paced DePauw with 13 points, including a strong 6-for-7 performance from the free throw line. Riley Merle added 10 points, while Ashlynn Borsa contributed 8 points and 4 rebounds for the Tigers.
The Owls also showed some resilience in the defensive end, forcing 14 DePauw turnovers and chalking up 10 steals, three of which came from Zimmerman.
Kenyon will look to bounce back in its remaining two games of the season, both of which are being played at home. The Owls’ next matchup will be Wednesday against The College of Wooster with tip off set for 7 p.m.
