Training camps opened up around the WNBA on Sunday. With weeks to go until the highly-anticipated 2025 season tips off, the new-look Dallas Wings are already standing out as one of The W’s more intriguing teams after a busy, transformative offseason.
After hiring a new general manager in Curt Miller and a new head coach in Chris Koclanes, the Wings selected former UConn Huskies guard Paige Bueckers #1 overall in the 2025 WNBA draft earlier this month. Bueckers, a three-time All-American at UConn who led the Huskies to an NCAA championship in April, has long been regarded as a superstar-in-waiting — not just for her efficient shooting and creative playmaking, but for her leadership and her competitive spirit.

That level of competitive fire is quickly becoming apparent in new surroundings. As the Wings let each of their players send a post from their X account on Sunday, Bueckers wasted no time in targeting new teammate DiJonai Carrington, widely regarded as one of the top defenders in the WNBA.
“DiJonai can’t guard me,” Bueckers said, slyly referencing her UConn team’s victory over Carrington’s Baylor Bears in the 2021 Elite Eight.
“I mean the proof is in the pudding lol,” one user wrote on X, with a picture of Bueckers celebrating right behind Carrington.
Not to be outdone by Bueckers’ challenge, Carrington poked fun at the #1 overall pick with the hashtag #GetPaigeSomeSunlight — playfully referring to the Edina, Minnesota native’s complexion.
Carrington’s reply too picked up plenty of attention on X.

“I’m sorry Paige pookie, DiJonai won this one,” one fan wrote.
“Lol omg this team is gonna be fun,” another user posted.
After enduring a miserable 9-31 season in 2024, the Wings’ hard reset has generated optimism of a return to the WNBA playoffs in 2025. The developing chemistry between Bueckers, Carrington and incumbent star Arike Ogunbowale will be vital to those hopes of a resurgence.
