Paige Bueckers continued her string of dominant performances in Unrivaled regular season play on Friday with 28 points, but her Breeze squad fell 70-68 to Hive in Miami.
Sonia Citron hit a game-winning layup to give Hive, now 3-7 in league play, the comeback victory. Breeze dropped to 5-5.
Hive overcame a 15-point third-quarter deficit after trailing 46-31 with 6:42 left in the third quarter. The squad immediately stormed back with a 14-0 run, with Citron scoring nine of her 17 points during the stretch.
The two teams traded punches from there. Breeze went up 57-51 late in the third, but Hive responded with a 9-2 run to take a 60-59 edge.
From there, it was a one-possession game for the rest of the evening.
The two teams entered the fourth quarter with an Elam Ending target score of 70. Cameron Brink made a layup down the stretch to tie the game at 68, but on Hive’s next possession, Citron responded with one of her own for the win.
Kelsey Mitchell led Hive with 22 points. Monique Billings posted a 15-point, 17-rebound double-double with two blocks and two steals.
Bueckers’ 28 points on 13-of-23 shooting led all scorers, and she added seven rebounds and five assists. Teammate Rickea Jackson added 15 points.
Bueckers is now averaging 25.0 points, 6.7 assists and 6.1 rebounds per game over 10 contests. She and the Breeze will look to move over .500 when they play the 2-7 Lunar Owls on Tuesday, Feb. 17. The Hive will play the first-place Laces (7-2) on that same day as well.
