On January 31, at Madison Square Garden in New York, Shakur Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs) comfortably outpointedTeofimo Lopez (22-2, 13 KOs) to win The Ring and WBO super lightweight titles.

After Stevenson’s win, many have speculated about what he will do next, but former two-weight world champion Paulie Malignaggi has spoken to NewBettingOffers, offering clear advice as to what Lopez should do next.

Teofimo Lopez loses super lightweight titles to Shakur Stevenson

Lopez arrived at MSG as The Ring and super lightweight champion. He was expected to provide an acid test for the unbeaten Stevenson.

Shakur quickly got in his groove and began to control the distance and tempo with his jab. Even when Lopez did close the distance, Stevenson was slipping his attacks and countering with poise and precision.

Lopez had his best round in the eighth, but it was more due to Shakur switching off for a round, and the one-sided nature of the fight continued for the remaining four rounds.

The judges’ scorecards reflected Shakur’s dominance, with all three scoring it 119-109.

Malignaggi offers clear advice for Teofimo Lopez

When asked what Teo should do next if he were advising him: “The Kambosos rematch,” said Malignaggi without hesitation.

“It’s sellable. It’s a fight you have to avenge a loss. It’s a rebuild fight because Kambosos probably isn’t on his level anymore. But yoy do have a loss against him, so it’s a marketable rebuild fight, it’s not just any rebuild fight.

“And there’s still that rivalry between them. I think Teo vs Kambosos, they kind of both have to rebuild, so it’s an opportunity for both of them to rebuild. Both of them have a profile; they have a past history. I’d say Teo vs Kambosos 2 is a good step in the right direction,” added Malignaggi.

It remains to be seen what Teofimo Lopez will do next, but he remains a talented fighter who can undoubtedly mix with some of the best fighters around.
