The Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons had an exciting basketball game at TD Garden on December 4, with a total of 250 points and 41 made three-pointers. However, the rematch a week later was a one-sided affair, with the Celtics dominating the Pistons to pick up their 20th win of the season with a 123-99 victory at home.
The Celtics had a balanced attack, with six players scoring in double figures. Payton Pritchard led the way with 27 points, 10 assists, and seven three-pointers. Derrick White also had a strong game with 23 points and seven threes. Kristaps Porzingis added 19 points, while Jaylen Brown contributed 14 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 18 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.
Despite missing key players like Jayson Tatum and Sam Hauser, the Celtics struggled in the early minutes of the game. However, they were able to build a comfortable lead in the first quarter and maintain it throughout the game.
Boston relied on their frontcourt players to overcome Detroit’s defense, with Porzingis and Luke Kornet leading the charge in the first quarter. Neemias Queta even saw some playing time, as the Celtics looked to exploit their advantage inside.
The Pistons struggled to score early on, shooting poorly from the field and missing multiple three-pointers. Although they made a comeback in the second quarter, the Celtics quickly pulled away again to enter halftime with a 15-point lead.
In the second half, the Celtics extended their lead with strong performances from Pritchard and Brown. Brown took on a different role as a facilitator, providing assists and playing efficient basketball to help his team maintain control of the game.
Boston’s lead continued to grow in the third quarter, with Brown and Porzingis leading the charge. The Celtics’ ball movement and three-point shooting overwhelmed the Pistons, giving them a comfortable lead heading into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter was largely uneventful, as the Celtics maintained their lead and secured the win. Pritchard’s sixth three-pointer helped Boston seal the victory, setting up their next game against the Washington Wizards.
Next up, the Celtics will pack their bags and head to the nation’s capital, squaring off with the Washington Wizards this Sunday at 6 PM EST on NBC Sports Boston.
