The New Orleans Pelicans have reached a deal with Matkovic for a three-year, $4.9 million contract. Matkovic was initially selected by the Pelicans as the 22nd pick in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft.
During the previous season, Matkovic made the move from KK Cedevita Olimpija to the Birmingham Squadron in the G League. Playing for the Pelicans affiliated G League team, Matkovic put up impressive stats with averages of 17.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in 10 games.
New Orleans has been actively seeking affordable front-court depth this offseason, and signing Matkovic will provide them with additional size and presence in the center position.
